Excalibur Estate is a post-war 1940s prefabricated housing estate in Catford, South London, currently undergoing demolition.
I had the great pleasure of speaking with some of the residents, who allowed me to record our conversation for Social Housing Sound Archive, for which I'm very grateful. These recordings are extracts from a longer conversation with Margaret Rose Edwards - on the day before her 83rd Birthday - who has lived on the estate for over 35 years, George Oliver, 75 years of age and Zain, 62 years of age who have also lived on the estate for many years. For more information on Excalibur Estate and the 'regeneration' of the site I can recommend the ASH website or John Grindrod's brilliant book - Concretopia: A Journey Around the Rebuilding of Postwar Britain
